Advanced Research Fellow (equivalent to Lecturer level) to lead research program in applied infectious disease modelling.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced academic researcher to join the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis to lead research in infectious disease modelling with an applied focus and to engage with global health agencies to support the translation of research into impact.

The Medical Research Council (MRC) Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis is an international resource and centre of excellence for research and training in the epidemiological analysis and modelling of infectious diseases. The Centre works closely with national and international agencies to support policy planning and response operations against infectious disease threats. The Centre is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Infectious Disease Modelling and staff of the Centre work closely with WHO and a range of other global health agencies to support translation of academic work into tangible impact.

To enable the Centre to deliver its mission of translating leading edge research on infectious disease dynamics into improvements in public health decision making, we are seeking an experienced researcher in infectious disease modelling. The post holder will lead a programme of research, working closely with MRC Centre academic staff, to deliver the Centre’s translational mission. The post holder will lead on new funding bids, deliver associated outputs (including reports, white papers, and academic outputs), manage a team of technical analysts (currently 6 staff) and engage closely with external stakeholders in the delivery of a portfolio of applied projects.

Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in one of the following areas: infectious disease epidemiology, mathematical modelling, statistics or related subject or a similar quantitative discipline and have substantial experience in the application of mathematical modelling to support public health decision-making.

The position is fixed term to June 2026 in the first instance with the potential for longer-term extension.
