PhD position in Veterinary Epidemiology and Pathogen Informatics (viruses of swine)
The VanderWaal lab is seeking a PhD student to join our team studying Veterinary Epidemiology and Pathogen Informatics. The student would work with a dynamic team at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, joining an ongoing collaboration on the epidemiology and evolution of PRRS virus in U.S. pig populations. Current projects relate to understanding strain-level variability in PRRS impacts at the pig, farm, and population levels. Depending on students interest, projects may include molecular epidemiology, modeling, and/or experimental infections. Preferred candidates should have strong communication and quantitative skills, with experience or strong interest in data analysis, machine learning, bioinformatics, sequence analysis, and/or modeling. Familiarity with population-level thinking, especially with food animal systems, is desired.
Please reach out before the Dec 1 application deadline to discuss your interest and fit for the position.
