Post-Doc Fellow (Level B) in Infectious Disease Modelling
The Post Doctoral Fellow will be expected to carry out independent work on modelling the health impact of vaccine strategies for endemic respiratory pathogens, with a focus on both existing and novel vaccine products, models that incorporate immunity at multiple scales, age- and risk-group targeting, and combination vaccine schedules.
This role provides an opportunity for a highly quantitative postdoctoral researcher to contribute to advanced infectious disease modelling with direct relevance to public health policy and practice. Working within the Infectious Disease Dynamics and Interventions group, the role focuses on developing and applying sophisticated mathematical, statistical and computational models to inform vaccination strategies for endemic respiratory pathogens. You will contribute to high-quality scientific outputs, collaborate with national and international research partners, and support competitive grant development, while progressively establishing an independent research profile. The position offers strong exposure to collaborative research initiatives, conference participation and publication, within a highly regarded academic environment at UNSW Medicine.
Some key skills required:
A PhD in a highly quantitative discipline, featuring advanced skills in mathematics and statistics, including in application of computational methods.
Demonstrated interest/experience in population health and observational science
Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, as a member of the Infectious Disease Dynamics and Interventions group, that align with the strategic research priorities of the group
Demonstrated track record of 1st author peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations in English.
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
Communicate and collaborate with relevant academic colleagues, including through contributing to research and activities under the national Australia-Aotearoa Consortium for Epidemic Forecasting and Analytics (ACEFA)
Establish a personal research portfolio and start developing independent research proposals.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
