Postdoc in Epidemiological Modelling, Bayesian Inference and Artificial Intelligence
The EPIA research unit (INRAE-VetAgro Sup), based near Lyon, France, is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for a two-year position in epidemiological modelling, Bayesian inference and artificial intelligence. Your mission will be to develop a new generation of simulation-based inference methods, drawing on recent advances in artificial intelligence to calibrate spatially explicit mechanistic models of pathogen transmission using multiple data sources. These methods will combine epidemiological and genomic data and allow parameter estimates and projections to be updated as new information becomes available. You will apply the methods developed to epidemiological models of pathogens relevant to human and animal health, including seasonal influenza and SARS-CoV-2 in humans, and lumpy skin disease virus in cattle. The overarching objective is to develop tools capable of rapidly estimating key epidemiological parameters, rigorously quantifying the associated uncertainty, and generating regularly updated projections to inform preparedness, surveillance and responses to health emergencies.
