Postdoctoral Fellow, Computational Epidemiology

The Laboratory for Computational Epidemiology and Public Health at Indiana University is looking for one or multiple postdoctoral fellow positions in Computational Epidemiology/Infectious Disease Modeling. Working under the direct supervision and mentorship of Dr. Marco Ajelli, the postdoctoral fellow will focus on applied infectious disease epidemiology using mathematical, computational, and statistical modeling. We are seeking researchers who are passionate about understanding the mechanisms driving epidemic spread, designing mathematical models, and building computational engines.

Responsibilities: The postdoctoral fellow is expected to develop data-driven mathematical and computational models, with a primary emphasis on the methodological rigor required for high-impact scientific publications. This position is designed as a launchpad for a tenure-track faculty career; as such, the postdoctoral fellow will lead at least one major project while contributing to the collaborative efforts of the lab, contribute to the writing of grant proposals and papers, and mentoring lab members. The work will primarily focus on respiratory infectious diseases (e.g., COVID-19, influenza, RSV) and mosquito-borne diseases but may pivot to public health emergencies.

Qualifications: Candidates must have received a doctoral degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related discipline). Computational proficiency is a core requirement: Candidates must be proficient in C or C++ and in R or Python.

Application Information: Applicants must provide a CV, a statement of research interests, a cover letter detailing your fit for this position, and the contact information for three references. Interested candidates should submit applications at: https://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/32436. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, with full consideration for those applying by April 15, 2026, and evaluated via an expedited decision process. The appointment start date is negotiable on a case-by-case basis and could begin as early as May 15, 2026. Questions regarding the position may be directed to Marco Ajelli at majelli@iu.edu.
