Research Assistant / Associate in Transmission Dynamics Modelling to support the elimination of onchocerciasis (river blindness)
We have a new Research Assistant / Associate position available at the Royal Veterinary College to work on a Gates Foundation-funded project developing modelling tools to support elimination of river blindness.
The role will focus on onchocerciasis transmission modelling, including stochastic model implementation, integration of epidemiological, serological, entomological and intervention-history datasets, large-scale simulation workflows, model fitting and uncertainty analysis, and analyses to support stopping thresholds, surveillance strategies and resurgence-risk assessment.
This would suit someone with a strong quantitative and computational background in infectious disease modelling, mathematical biology, statistics, epidemiology, computational biology, population modelling or a related area. Experience with R, Python, C or C++, reproducible workflows, stochastic or individual-based models, high-performance computing, Bayesian/likelihood-based inference, or neglected tropical diseases would all be valuable.
The post will be based in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Sciences at the RVC, linked to the RVC Global Centre for Neglected Tropical Disease Research, and will involve close collaboration with technical partners at Imperial College London and other project collaborators.
