UK Black heritage scholarship: Constructing an epidemiological modelling framework to maintain health security against resurgent infectious diseases
This is a Bristol PGR scholarship for applicants of Black heritage - please check eligibility before applying.
Since many infectious diseases are on a pathway towards elimination, it is becoming increasingly important to question how the risks of outbreak will be kept low once that goal has been achieved. This project aims to build a framework for understanding the factors that cause resurgence to occur. The candidate will develop a broad understanding of infectious disease epidemiology and study the literature on disease resurgences. They will adapt transmission models to include the social, economic, and behavioural variables that distinguish resurgence from other types of epidemic. They will consider real world settings, and provide policy recommendations on health security.
